“This is a painting of my aunt and my cousin. I chose to make this piece as a tribute to my aunt since she is deceased, and I wanted to capture her in a small moment of her life to show that she lived, breathed, and loved. I did not get to know her well due to her living in my home country and I living in the United States, and I regret this deeply. I think this reflects the experiences of many immigrants who do not get to know or even meet their family members back home. So, I made this piece not only as a tribute, but also as a way to somewhat make up for time that was lost and will never be gained.”
