The Outlier
What is an outlier?
Who is an outlier?
An outlier is always on the outside,
watching from the sidelines.
Never fully in the game,
constantly watching it all play out.
Never the main character,
but always the side character.
The outlier stands alone in the world,
watching and waiting,
for the right moment to step in.
Truth is…
They might never have that moment.
Constantly building momentum,
momentum never noticed nor acknowledged.
They stand apart from the group,
always different.
Her difference makes her the outlier.
She is who she is,
whoever she decides to be.
That’s what she tells herself,
but the world already branded her as…
The Outlier.
Author’s Notes:
The outlier discusses how it feels to always feel different and never truly fit in anywhere. To always have to pave your own path even though there’s already a path made. To always feel lonely in a room of people and to always feel excluded even when people invite you to do stuff.
Pray the Gay Away
Pray the Gay away,
until all you can think about.
Is the pure disappointment
In your parents eyes.
Just at the bare thought of it
Pray the gay away
Until you’re laying in the dark,
Thinking about having to choose.
Between this sacred love you harbor,
and the people that taught you.
To love your neighbor,
as you love yourself.
Pray the Gay away,
until someone looks you in the eye.
And says to you…
don’t touch me, I don’t wanna catch the Gay.
Pray the gay away,
until your head is filled.
With your body catching fire,
all for this sacred love you harbor.
Author’s Note:
Pray the Gay away discusses how it feels to be gay in a religious household. That means you have to hide parts of yiu from the people that you love and know that you’ll eventually have to choose between yourself and them.
